Russell lost 160 lbs
"The combination of support and healthy choices for food and exercise is a very powerful combination."
When asked what made Russell choose HMR, he is quick to share, "My doctor said I was "pre-diabetic" and that soon I would start losing parts like my hands and feet, kidneys, eyes, etc., if I didn't do something about my weight and my life choices".
Before participating in HMR Russell would resort to weight loss techniques such as other nutritional diets, hospital nutritionists, even at times go as far as "starving himself".
However, what allowed Russell to be successful this time around was the large emphasis of behavior modification provided with HMR. "The combination of support and healthy choices for food and exercise is a very powerful combination and is awfully resilient to what life keeps throwing at me". Russell continues to add, "the program is structured so that whole person is addressed, not just the fat". This has provided him with a sense of ownership, relation and acceptance not only within the program but with himself personally. "Having someone to talk to who has at least felt some of the feelings you are feeling helps me tremendously, not only through the instructors but through other participants in the class". Everyone is involved with wanting to see you succeed as an individual.
Before HMR Russell's physical activity was little to none, but now is finding himself skating, skiing, biking, swimming, and hiking. "When I am tired now, I know it is for the right reason, not because I can't carry my weight like I was all day every day, even at night".
Russell explains all it takes is some effort and improvement, but most importantly "don't panic"!
