Combating the HolidaysCombating the Holidays - December 19th, 2011
Has this Holiday season been more stressful and or busier than in previous years, or perhaps you are just more aware of your surroundings this year? Either way, has this resulted in you seeing the scale creep upwards during this season? If this has been the case for you so far, well fret not, for this can be preventable for having it go any further and even be reversed. Sure, you are probably thinking the only way for this to happen is to spend excess time at the gym and eating only cabbage while missing out on the festivities of the holidays. Tis the season to be stressed, er I mean joyous!Tis the season to be stressed, er I mean joyous! - December 9th, 2011
Thanksgiving has come and gone and now we are finding ourselves in full swing with the holiday season. Tis the season to be stressed, oops I mean tis the season to be merry! Sadly though for the majority of us this time of year equates to added stress. It is not as if this is something new or that we were not expecting it for it comes around every year. However, for many of us who have been working the remainder of the year on building a healthier lifestyle for ourselves, this period of time becomes an unintentional vacation or even worst death to our newly built habits. Fret not, for the holiday season does not need to equate to such a vacation, even if there is added stress to deal with. Perhaps you are saying to yourself it is not possible for overcoming such feats. Sure, I am not going to deny there is going to be the presence of extra stress, that is an annual guarantee but there are strategies that can easily help reduce the one road block in making the holidays enjoyable and ultimately setting those healthy habits aside through this period of the year. Recognizing and reducing the presence of these unnecessary extra stresses will help you come out on top a hero all around.

Happy Thanksgiving - November 24th, 2011
Happy Thanksgiving! Hard to believe another year has gone by since last year's holiday, so lets ask ourselves what we find ourselves thankful for this year. Perhaps a caring family, caring friends, a roof over your head, or all of the hard work you have been doing around building a healthier you? Whatever the reason(s) you find yourself being thankful for this year, lets remember that this holiday is not merely about the feast you are perhaps about to indulge in but all the special things around you! Especially if you have been so diligent around building a healthier you over the past year. Many of us allow this time to be the time we indulge in bigger more elaborate meals with the idea of refocusing back in the first of the year. Sure, on paper that may sound to be a fantastic plan, I mean you deserve it right? Unfortunately the writing on the paper doesn't work out as well in reality. Why is that, well simply put, if you find yourself putting on extra weight during the holiday season due to the holidays, parties, reduced physical activities, etc. it is highly probable you will find yourself with that same amount of extra weight on come next Thanksgiving. Sure perhaps it may not be a large amount that you find yourself adding on over this next month period, but over time it adds up! No pun intended.

PortionsPortions - November 11th, 2011
With Thanksgiving just around the corner along with other holiday festivities we are probably going to find ourselves faced with situations dealing with food more so than usual. This can either be a bust or success for individual's weight. Many of us go into this season with all of the year's hard efforts around weight loss on hold to celebrate. What many of us don't often associate is that we can still celebrate and maintain our hard efforts both at the same instance. Don't think that in order to protect that waist line during this season you have to lock yourself up behind doors and not go out at all, all it takes is a little awareness of choice, and portion control. Here are some strategies that can be used to be successful in this venture:

A new season - November 4th, 2011
Fall is in full swing now and this means that the kids have been back to school for some time, the holiday season is knocking at our door, we are getting ready to turn back our clocks making for shorter daylight, the weather is cooling off and we are point blank finding ourselves back into a over scheduled calendar. These aspects perhaps sound just as dreary as the long winter months many of us experience, because for many of us this means we find our healthy behaviors being put into hibernation. This outlook doesn't have to be so but instead it can be just as rewarding, all it takes is a little seasonal adjustment to our behaviors!

Vary that routineVary that routine - October 7th, 2011
Time after time the benefits of creating and maintaining a consistent habit of exercising have been reported. One of the latest can be found in a recent article in the New York Times regarding the effects of exercising strengthening the brain.1 Perhaps you have found your groove in a routine that you perform day in and day out and that is fantastic! Yet ask yourself this question, how often do you change up your routine with either variety in intensity or even different activities? Regularly exercising not only helps reduce health risks but also assists in loosing and or maintaining one's weight. However, by doing the same routine day in and day out can actually make little difference after some time as your body becomes acclimated to what you are doing. Not to fret, there are simple strategies to assist in jump starting your burn without having to change much in your favorite routine.

The power of self observationThe power of self observation - September 9th, 2011
The summer season has unofficially come to a close with kids going back to school, fall sports starting and getting back into the system of a routine. Sure many of us may consider this a time of greater opportunity to focus on ourselves and building a healthier lifestyle now that we are back into a routine. For some however, it may be an even greater challenge in doing so because of everything going on in our daily schedule. Whatever category you find yourself falling under, how much are you focusing on yourself and how you are feeling?

Going deeper than the surface levelGoing deeper than the surface level - August 26th, 2011
How many of us, including myself, have worked hard at loosing weight with only gaining it back and then some? Perhaps it was the all liquid method, or cutting out carbohydrates, eating just cabbage and or grapefruit? Whatever the method was to help succeed in loosing weight, I can safely assure you it didn't stay very long. Or perhaps you found yourself partaking in the ever infamous objective, “when I reach my goal I can celebrate my success with my favorite foods”. It seems like a never ending battle between society and a healthy way of living.

Reasons for momentumReasons for momentum - August 19th, 2011
You've taken it upon yourself to make some considerable changes in your lifestyle to promote a healthier you through exercise and eating healthy, way to go! That is a big step in the right direction, yet I can bet you will regularly be faced with dilemmas that will try to sabotage your healthier path. Perhaps it will be the favorite regular evening television programing, routinely going out with your friends for drinks and or food, transporting your kids to their extra curricular activities, etc. All of these possible factors are challenges to help keep you on track with what is needed for taking care of yourself and may even require a little extra forethought in an already busy schedule. This is the last thing anyone wants to think about, but not to fret, there is a golden light in this dilemma of constant sabotages. This golden light is the conscious support of momentum. Momentum is the concrete support of what you have been accomplishing for yourself and your healthier you, your self determination for success.

However, there are those days that it is just too darn hot to partake in those outdoor activities and it is necessary to depend on those indoor activities. Those of us battling the challenges of weight loss and exercise, avoiding the infamous junk foods can be difficult and often undesirable. Ways to be activeWays to be active - July 8th, 2011
Life is busy for many of us between demanding work schedules and family obligations. Because of this constant juggling act, the one thing that often is thrown aside is creating time for exercise. Sure, we have heard the discussions of how exercise assists in weight loss and weight management, but it also is a great method for helping boost moral. Still, with all the research and press discussing these attributes we still find ourselves finding excuses why we can't seem to find the time. Here are some solutions though that can be a good stepping stone for turning that lack of time to exercise to having time to exercise.

The unrecognized facts of Easter candiesThe unrecognized facts of Easter candies - April 18th, 2011
It's Spring and many of us are beginning to plan out our check list for getting beach ready; however, there is a holiday upon us where many will find themselves putting all of that aside for a day of treats. The holiday that I speak of is Easter. Sure that bouncing bunny and baskets of delectable treats are cute and fun, but Easter has recently made its ranks in the sales and consumption of candy, right behind Halloween. Sure, just as with Halloween the holiday may only be one day out of the year, but sadly the consumption of these sugary treats seem to last more than just one day as they lay around the home and or office for days before and or after the holiday. Here are some of the more popular Easter confections one can expect to find caloric wise.
