Environmental control for working out

Summertime is a great time to get outdoors and enjoy the warmer weather. However, there are those days that it is just too darn hot to partake in those outdoor activities and it is necessary to depend on those indoor activities. Perhaps since the winter months the space normally reserved for partaking in any type of indoor physical activities has been neglected and is looking dreary and uninviting to get motivated in doing anything in them? Well, here are some ideas to help revamp that space and get you moving when not doing so outdoors!

Supportive spacing:

Remember those days when you were a kid of filling your locker or bedroom with pictures of celebrity crushes or perhaps some type of motorized vehicle? Well in similar fashion, collect some pictures of a sport or goal you are working toward and paste that in your workout space. These collages of photographs are not merely decorative art but a great way to boost momentum for either getting started or rebuilding energy during a workout. Perhaps you are working toward completing a marathon or triathlon? Then look for photos of athletes participating in that event or even find a photo of someone crossing that finish line. Perhaps you have a wedding, or vacation coming up that you are trying to shed a few extra pounds for? Looking for photographs of that outfit or location that you are traveling to are great ways to keep focused! By placing these photographs around the space enables one to envision his or herself in that specific future moment and not loose sight of why it is you are doing what you are doing for yourself.

Color:

Not only are photographs a great way to boost momentum and focus while working out, but color is also a great tool. Is the room you have designated to work out in dab and dreary? Or has it not been freshened up in years? Perhaps a new coat of paint in a colorful tone is just the needed key. Colors not only add a splash of vibrancy to a space, but they also help stimulate the mind. If painting is not an option, then filling the space with colorful items such as furniture, workout equipment, window coverings and wall hangings are a great way to get in that color. Remember don't be afraid, color is your friend!

Own the space:

Making the flow of a space efficient for your workout needs is important. Stand in the middle of the room and visualize yourself doing the routine(s) you'd be doing there. What equipment is necessary? Where is the best place to put the equipment? Perhaps where is the best place for your water bottle and towel if that is needed during your routine? The purpose behind this exercise is to not only help create your own space, but to figure out what is going to help give you the most efficient and organized environment necessary. Basically you are creating a peace of mind space for yourself.

Air flow:

No one likes coming into a smelly environment to workout in. So take a little effort in making sure there is adequate ventilation throughout the space. If there are windows, make sure you can open them for a good breeze. If windows are not an option, get a fan to assist with the circulation of air flow. Make sure the floor and equipment are well cleaned, so perhaps when creating your space, figure out a good place to store a bottle of cleaner for after your workouts. Also, make sure your towels are regularly switched out with fresh ones. Smell is just as important as visual stimulation, so lets work on keeping that positive!

It is important to have that space that you look forward to inhabiting while working out and achieving your desired goal(s). These are just some simple steps to assist in creating that inspirational environment for you to do just that. So now on those hot summer days and/or winter months there is little excuse for not reaching/maintaining those goals of yours. Happy exercising!
