Going deeper than the surface level

How many of us, including myself, have worked hard at loosing weight with only gaining it back and then some? Perhaps it was the all liquid method, or cutting out carbohydrates, eating just cabbage and or grapefruit? Whatever the method was to help succeed in loosing weight, I can safely assure you it didn't stay very long. Or perhaps you found yourself partaking in the ever infamous objective, “when I reach my goal I can celebrate my success with my favorite foods”. It seems like a never ending battle between society and a healthy way of living.

Yes, it may regularly require a little forethought on our part, but being healthy is achievable. Sure, these quick methods for helping take off the weight may be productive, but these are short term solutions. What is going to help one ultimately be successful is to delve deeper within one's own self and alter his or her lifestyle. Prevent yourself from limiting your abilities to achieve goals, but instead move away from the tunnel vision mentality and recognize that possibilities are endless as long as you are willing to enforce them. Weight management is a daily part of our life and not a simple on off switch that we can use whenever it fits best for us. It takes a deeper level on our part and the more we use these healthy behaviors, the easier they become.

If you find yourself simply measuring your success by the numbers on a scale, I can assure you things will not last. Our body has a tendency to fluctuate and this can lead to discouragement and dissatisfaction with the work being done. Plus, once the intended goal has been met, what methods have been put into place to help maintain these results? That is the problem with a diet mentality, they do no last, because there are not meaningful successes to go by. When one changes his or her mentality from a diet perspective to a lifestyle perspective, you will find yourself having a meaningful successes to measure by. Measure your successes by the overall quality of life and outcomes rather than by a day to day basis. Not only will this help in continually building that necessary momentum for what you are doing for yourself, it will also help reduce if not eliminate the stress of any challenges.

So, my advice is to eliminate that word 'diet' from your vocabulary and start replacing it with the word 'lifestyle'. Once this has been accomplished start looking at the bigger picture of how it is you want to see yourself be down the road and not just from a moment to moment perspective. Eliminate that negative talk about yourself and consciously recognize the successes you are making for yourself. This is what will last and will help you look deeper in yourself as opposed to the surface level that dieting merely focuses on. We are resilient and nothing will stop us as long as we don't let anything stop us, so I challenge you to get up and start recognizing your endless possibilities for a healthier you!
