You've taken it upon yourself to make some considerable changes in your lifestyle to promote a healthier you through exercise and eating healthy, way to go! That is a big step in the right direction, yet I can bet you will regularly be faced with dilemmas that will try to sabotage your healthier path. Perhaps it will be the favorite regular evening television programing, routinely going out with your friends for drinks and or food, transporting your kids to their extra curricular activities, etc. All of these possible factors are challenges to help keep you on track with what is needed for taking care of yourself and may even require a little extra forethought in an already busy schedule. This is the last thing anyone wants to think about, but not to fret, there is a golden light in this dilemma of constant sabotages. This golden light is the conscious support of momentum. Momentum is the concrete support of what you have been accomplishing for yourself and your healthier you, your self determination for success.
It is however easy to loose sight of these aspects of momentum when constantly faced with challenges or what seems to be failures. So, here are some simple yet effective strategies to assist you in keeping focused:

Talk it out. Perhaps you are frustrated by your social environments not being supportive of you and your journey for a healthier you. A great strategy is explain to your close networks of friends and family members about your determination for a healthier you. Many of times those around us do not know or understand what it is we wish to achieve for own selves. By taking the time to clearly layout what it is you are doing for yourself, in the end will help alleviate a great deal of unnecessary headaches and challenging moments amongst you and your loved ones.

Stop the negative self-talk. I'm sure there are things you would never consider saying to anyone you cared about if it meant stopping them from accomplishing something. So, then why do you allow yourself to say it to yourself? Remember, you are one of, if not the most, important person you should care about. Don't fill your self vocabulary with negative comments that will instil a reason for not following through on your priorities. Use supportive talk that will make you want to follow through with your goals! Be your own enthusiastic coach.

Set priorities. If you don't give yourself the opportunity to make a goal for yourself, then what do you have to go by? Take a moment to make a goal for yourself. Perhaps you are suppose to go out with friends this evening for dinner? What is going to be your priority when out with them and are these priorities what you want, or are they the wishes of everyone else? Remember to put the “I” back into your vocabulary and share with others what you would like to see. Make that goal so you have something to work by while out with your friends, as oppose to going with the flow. This will cause less stress in the end and create a more enjoyable atmosphere for everyone. Remember communication is key!

Write down your successes. Regularly recognize your successes. Perhaps you were able to get in that workout earlier in the day amongst your busy schedule, or perhaps you were able to accomplish something in your workout you haven't been able to do before? Perhaps you went down another size in your clothing? The possibilities are endless. But use these constant reminders of your success as a means of support why it is important to keep up the hard work you are doing for yourself. This is especially true when you may be faced with various challenges and it doesn't seem necessary to keep focused on your healthy journey. They are going to only further help re-affirm why it is.

The momentum that you are building for yourself comes strictly from you, but don't forget you are not alone. Be open with others and lean on them when necessary. By continually setting goals for yourself and recognizing regular challenges, this will help make your journey for a sustainable healthy you that much easier and enjoyable in the long run.
