Sleep: A Key Player in the Weight Management Game

Ever notice the days when you are tired and no amount of food seems to give you a full feeling? Well, you are not imagining it! Studies are finding a relationship between exhaustion and eating more then normal. Today's active lifestyle is making it harder and harder to get at least seven hours a sleep at a time. Between the obligations at work, and at home, there seems to never be enough hours in the day to get in a few more beneficial hours. However, someone looking to maintaining his or her weight may want to peer into this aspect of their path to healthy behaviors.

This year in a study published by the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition researchers looked at the relationship between the number of hours slept and the number of eaten in a number of male test subjects. They found that on average men who slept for only four hours consumed more than 500 calories during a set time. On the other hand the gentlemen who slept a full eight hours ate around 380 caloriesi. The association between sleep and weight management is not necessarily a new concept, but the data supporting this relationship is increasing. So the next time you are staying up late browsing the internet or watching television, perhaps the best strategy is heading to bed for the night.
