The unrecognized facts of Easter candies

It's Spring and many of us are beginning to plan out our check list for getting beach ready; however, there is a holiday upon us where many will find themselves putting all of that aside for a day of treats. The holiday that I speak of is Easter. Sure that bouncing bunny and baskets of delectable treats are cute and fun, but Easter has recently made its ranks in the sales and consumption of candy, right behind Halloween. Sure, just as with Halloween the holiday may only be one day out of the year, but sadly the consumption of these sugary treats seem to last more than just one day as they lay around the home and or office for days before and or after the holiday. Here are some of the more popular Easter confections one can expect to find caloric wise.

Cadbury Crème Eggs
Ah the infamous television commercial of the various animals attempting to mimic the Cadbury Bunny I'm sure is one of the iconic images that first comes to one's mind. Perhaps considered to be all time Easter treat, this crème filled egg is also a gut buster caloric wise. Just one regular 1.2 ounce crème filled egg is a whopping 150 calories and 22 grams of sugar. Sure that doesn't seem like a big deal, but first off how many of us usually eat just one of these eggs, especially when they now come in packets of two or more. And how often do you allow yourself to indulge in this delectable treat? It adds up. Just think, if you are having trouble in finding time to do what ever exercise you are already doing in your hectic schedule, it would take a 160lb female at least 30 extra minutes walking just to burn off that one egg.

Peeps
Another iconic Easter treat is that package of fluffy sugar covered marshmallows in the shapes of cute animals. That's right, Peeps. Another treat that is often difficult to just consume one, especially when they come in a row of four. Just by consuming that one row of four fluffy ducks can set you back 130 calories and 32 grams of sugar. Well just that one row of cuddly treats will set you back at least 15 minutes more of moderate jogging on top of whatever else it is that you are doing.

Chocolate Easter Bunny
There is then the ultimate Easter icon, the chocolate bunny. An average 7 ounces of chocolate molded in the shape of a rabbit can set someone back over a thousand calories. That is almost if not half a day's worth of calories for someone. That equates to almost an hour and forty minutes of swimming for someone.

Sure there is nothing that says we can not enjoy our Easter celebrations and traditions, but this year lets make it a goal to revamp these celebrations and traditions to be more supportive of our healthy behaviors and weight management. Instead of filling the baskets with sugary refined treats, lets utilize more of the natural sweet treats such as fruits that is a fraction of the calories compared to the other. Remember the short term satisfaction of that treat is not always the greatest satisfaction, as is the long term sense of accomplishment when you are able to keep a distinct path toward a healthier you. To top it off, remember beach weather is not that far around the corner, that bathing suit is calling!
